Danny Mizicko is an award-winning filmmaker, cinematographer, director, and editor from Northeast Ohio whose work spans documentary, commercial, music, action sports, and adventure filmmaking. For more than 15 years, he has collaborated with brands, athletes, artists, and networks including ESPN, the NBA, Red Bull, NBC, Bloomberg, Garmin, Pepsi, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and TIME Magazine, among others.
Raised by two blue-collar factory workers on 300 acres of farmland in rural Ohio, Danny developed an early connection to hard work, the outdoors, and the overlooked people and places around him. Skateboarding, motorcycles, and action sports became both a way of life and an entry point into filmmaking. That Midwest foundation continues to shape his approach today: resourceful, visually driven, and grounded in authentic human stories.
For more than two decades, Danny has used his creative platform Stuck In Ohio to document skateboarding, action and adventure sports, motorcycle culture, and the people and places surrounding him. His early work included documenting the world-famous Ohio motorcycle stunt-riding crew the Starboyz, while his action-sports films received recognition from Panasonic, Mountain Dew, Burton, and Transworld Skateboarding. His work within skate culture also led to an on-screen role playing himself as a skateboard filmer in the Netflix feature The Land, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
His 2025 short documentary, Skate Rat Since ’88: The Kristian Svitak Story, has garnered recognition on the film festival circuit and earned two Telly Awards. In 2026, Danny also completed his personal feature documentary, THE YO, chronicling more than 20 years of adventures, people, places, and stories that shaped his life in Youngstown, Ohio.
Danny most recently co-directed the feature documentary Angel in Amish Country, the story of Perry Reese Jr., a Black high school basketball coach who found an unlikely home in one of the world’s largest Amish communities and built a legacy extending far beyond the basketball court. The film is set to begin its festival run in 2027.
Danny has also worked professionally as a video editor for the NBA, bringing together his background in sports, filmmaking, and visual storytelling.
Today, Danny continues to develop independent documentary projects rooted in people, place, subculture, and the American Midwest. He freelances full-time as a cinematographer, director, and editor and can most often be found outside capturing new work, exploring new places, or chasing the next story.
